CharCones™
My CharCones™ smokes a lot right after I light it. Is
that normal?
Yes. CharCones™ uses natural materials like paper and wood
to ignite the charcoal. Most people are used to starting charcoal fires with
lighter fluid and other petroleum distillates. Those chemicals offer an
impressive fire with less smoke, but can taint the flavor of grilled food (not
to mention burn a few arm hairs if you’re not careful!). We like to say, “where
there’s real fire, there’s smoke.”
What happens if my cone gets wet?
We don’t recommend soaking CharCones™, but if the outside
of the package gets a little wet or it is damp outside – don’t worry. Just ball
up a small piece (about half a sheet) of newspaper and place it in the center of
your grill. Light the paper and place the ‘cone directly over it. You should
have a roaring cone in no time.
What exactly are charcoal briquets?
Basic charcoal briquets are made from mixing natural
charcoal (charred wood) and a binder, usually vegetable starch, and pressing
them into shapes.
How do CharCones™ actually work?
The key to CharCones™ is the cone. The outer packaging creates a natural chimney to promote airflow and allows the coals to stay together for maximum heat concentration. The end result is a more efficient way to start a charcoal fire without the use of lighter fluid – and you never have to handle individual briquets or messy bags.
How much food can I cook with one ‘Cone?
CharCones™ contain about 3 pounds of premium charcoal briquets. That should be plenty for the average sized meal, or about 2 to 2 1/2 pounds of food. For larger meals, light two CharCones™ side by side.
